Course Notes: Kiawah Island

Coastal winds, water carries, and conservative targets for scoring.

Hole Guide

Hole 1 — Par 4
  • Typical wind: Cross; set safe aim away from water.
  • Elevation delta: Slightly downhill tee; watch rollout.
  • Safe miss: Favor the wide side of fairway.
  • Putt tendency: Gentle breaks; err on speed control.
Hole 2 — Par 3
  • Typical wind: Into/cross; choose trajectory to reduce drift.
  • Elevation delta: Slight carry increase; add ~1–2 yd.
  • Safe miss: Short‑left; avoid long right near water.
  • Putt tendency: Slight left‑to‑right near center pins.
Hole 7 — Par 4 (Coastal Wind Example)
  • Typical wind: Frequently gusty and variable; expect sudden shifts on approach.
  • Elevation delta: Slightly downhill into the green; expect additional rollout on firm days.
  • Safe miss: Prefer short-left to avoid runoff areas and water hazards.
  • Strategy: If gusty, play an extra club and a controlled punch to reduce drift variability.
Local considerations

Coastal courses change significantly with tide and weather; when possible, note the session conditions (calm vs. gusty) when adding course notes. We recommend contributors include the wind clock and a screenshot for faster verification.
