Course Notes: Bethpage Black
Target smarter: typical winds, elevation changes, safe landings, and putt reads.
Hole Guide
Hole 1 — Par 4
- Typical wind: Light cross from right.
- Elevation delta: Tee slightly uphill; approach modestly flat.
- Safe miss: Short‑left leaves uphill putt; avoid long right.
- Putt tendency: Subtle left‑to‑right inside 20 ft.
Hole 4 — Par 5 (Strategic Example)
- Typical wind: Often helps on second shot; watch shifting crosswinds on approach.
- Elevation delta: Fairway slopes slightly to the right; prefer left‑center tee line to open approach.
- Safe miss: Lay up short of the bunker to a comfortable wedge; full carry can leave difficult downhill chips.
- Strategy:
- Drive to left-center to avoid fairway bunkers on the right.
- On the second, use a mid-loft club if wind increases to reduce rollout variability.
How we gathered these notes
These notes come from replaying rounds, community submissions, and testing with the calculators on this site. For each hole we record repeated wind behaviors, measured elevation deltas, and the safest miss zones. When you contribute, please include the pin placement, wind clock, and at least one screenshot or replay timestamp so we can verify and refine the notes.
